We are approaching the end of the year. The time where there are holiday gatherings, meals and for many, time off. Many people go into December thinking that it is so close to the end of the year and that they will just coast until the next year. And THEN they will make changes. Once the calendar turns, they will start that new eating plan, move their body more, give up alcohol or chocolate or put themselves out there to start dating. January 1st will be a new day and a new year brings a new person and everything will change. “I will finally start living the life I want to in January!” is what many people tell themselves.
Here is my question- what the hell is the difference between December 31st and January 1st? Your wall calendar turns the page to a new year. That’s it. You are the same person. When the ball drops at midnight, there is no magical change in your habits, mindset, thought process or routine. January 1st is just another day. Yet we treat it like it is the beginning of a new awakening to being your best self and a new year is the key to finally going after what you want.
You know what I think about that thought process? It’s bullshit.
Why do we wait for a new year to make changes? MAKE CHANGES NOW!
Today is December 6th. There are 25 more days until the new year. If there is something in your life you want to do, experience or shift, you can start today! You have 25 days to get a head start on all of those people that are starting on January 1st!
You want to publish a book? Put pencil to paper or fingers to keys. Start research how to get published. Reach out to someone you know who has written and published a book and ask for advice.
You want to move your body more? Go for a walk, do an online yoga class (I highly recommend Yoga with Adriene!) go to the gym or meet up with a friend to play tennis.
You want to start dating? Get that online profile set up or go to a local book club gathering or to the neighborhood street festival to meet new people. Put yourself out there today!
I challenge you to think of what you can do in the next 25 days to continue moving towards the future you want. Your Future Self on January 1st will thank you for starting now.
