I wrote a book.

If you follow me on any of my social media platforms, you will know that I WROTE A BOOK!

Me- Sara from upstate New York. The golfer. The runner. The crossfitter. The coach. The Penn Stater. The one who just started reading books last year for fun. I contacted a publishing group. I had a book cover designed. I kept going.

And…..

I. Wrote. A. Book.

I have certain things that I identify as- a coach, a wife, an aunt, a sister, a daughter, a friend, an athlete, a positive person full of passion. But if you asked me to identify as a writer, I would say, “hell no! I’m not smart enough to write a book. Who would read my book? I could never do that! I’m a golfer, not a writer”

Then something shifted. Someone heard about a program I ran for seniors on the college golf team that I coach and said, “You should write a book about that!” That was over 5 years ago. I thought about it. I mentioned it to a few people. I bought a journal. That journal sat empty. Then I wrote in that journal. I did the 12 week “an artist’s way” morning journal pages. I did them for 10 weeks then quit. I bought a new journal. I wrote in that journal. Then I woke up on January 1st, 2019 and started writing the actual book. I wrote at home, in restaurants, on planes, in hotel rooms, on the Seattle ferry, in the campground, on breaks during the day, late at night and early in the morning. I started by using pencil and paper. Then shifted to typing. It started in a word doc, transitioned to a google doc and eventually turned into a book formatted PDF. It was uploaded and is now officially a published book.

I never identified as a writer. Until I did. I am a writer. I am an author. I am a published author.

So now I turn to you- what have you decided that you can not do or that you don’t identify as? Is there a way to shift that mindset? Can you get support from someone? Can you say out loud that you are that person? Take the first step.

If I can do it. You can do it. Keep going. You got this.
