Make Future Based Decisions

Look to your future. What do you want? Who do you want to be? Where do you want to be? Do you think about these things? If you do not think about your future and what you want, I encourage you to. Think about 6 months from now. A year from now. 5 years from now. Think about who you want to be surrounded by. How you want to be living. What do you want to be doing?

Once you have a vision, a goal and/ or an intention for your future, you can start taking the steps that it requires to fulfill those aspirations. If you do not know where you want to go, you will not know what steps and direction to take to get there.

Once you define what you want, then you can start making decisions, choices and steps to lead you towards it.

Say you want to buy a house. Picture what you want your house to look like. Is it a ranch or a two story home? Does the exterior have brick or is it siding? Is it gray? Blue? White? Does it have a wrap around porch? A back deck? A pool? Is there a garage that is detached from the house? Or is it attached? Does the kitchen have an island and open concept? Or does it take up it’s own space in the back of the house? Are there 2 bedrooms? 3 bedrooms? 2 bathrooms? 1 1/2 baths? Is there a den or an office? Is there a fireplace? What color are the walls? Is there a tub or a shower? Or both? Are you starting to see it? That house you want?

Once you can envision it, then you can start making choices today that will get you there. You will start working to save money for a down payment. You will start searching Zillow or sign up with a realtor. You will go to open houses and make trips to Home Depot or Lowes to get materials and supplies needed for the home. You will start watching more HGTV or reading online blogs about design. You may start talking to your friends and family about this home you envision. You will start paying attention to other homes as you drive through neighborhoods to see what lights you up. In the end, you may even close on the home of your dreams.

Thing is, if you never imagined the home, how would you know that it is what you wanted?

You can use this thought process with a lot of other situations- looking to the relationship, job, friend circle, education, physical health or affect on others that you want in your future. Start imagining it. Brainstorm with your friends, family or a coach. Start researching ways to get to where you want to go. Then start making decisions, choices and creating habits today that are based in what you want for your future.

Dreaming big can be scary. But not dreaming at all can lead you to nowhere.

Only you know what is in your heart and mind about your future. Go get it!
