Take Small Steps
Do you have a goal to be a CEO of a fortune 500 company? Do you want to run a marathon? Do you want to get married, buy a house and have 2 kids, a dog, a pool and be the president of the PTA? Do you want to live a healthier lifestyle that includes a shift in nutrition, sleep and movement?
These are all feasible accomplishments but are certainly not going to happen overnight. You must take the first step which may feel like a giant leap or may feel like a shuffle. Either way, making the first move towards a larger goal is the most important movement there is. Once you get moving towards what you want, energy, inertia, excitement and gravity can take over!
So you want to be a CEO? Start getting the experience needed to climb around on the occupation jungle gym to get there. Earn a certificate or Masters in that field. Volunteer in a space that would give you the skills to move closer to being the top of the company. Do the work. Show up every day to your current situation as if every day is a job interview to be that CEO.
You are running a marathon at the end of the year? Great! Go walk 2 miles today then run a mile tomorrow and 2 miles the next day. Take a rest day and then do sprint work or cross training. Run hills, join a marathon training program or running group. Match your food intake, hydration and stretching routine with your training to give you the best energy and recovery possible. Show up for your long runs and do them and if you need to walk, walk. Moving forward slower than anticipated is still moving forward.
To become that mother of 2 with a spouse and pool and house and responsibility of running the PTA, you must first sign up for online dating. Or go on that blind date. Put yourself out there. Find the partner that fits your future plans. Lay the groundwork for that future and be willing to adjust, adapt and side step when needed. Enjoy the process until you are wading in your pool with your two kids and the dog is running around the back yard with your partner grilling dinner. Sounds lovely!
That healthier lifestyle? That also is not an overnight thing. It is choice after choice after choice that will change habits, energy levels and mindsets. Move your body every day. Plan healthy meals for the week. Put food into your body that will help give you the output you are looking for energetically and emotionally. Drink more water, go to bed earlier and know that health is a lifelong journey that requires daily actions and choices.
What is important to remember is that the big dreams, goals and visions are so important to have. AND you need a plan to make daily steps- some bigger than others that will continually move you towards that desired future self.
