Your Chosen Family
You have no control over what family you are born into or what family you grew up with. You have no control over who your biological parents are or who raised you. Your biological family is not always your logical family. And while I believe it is important to be connected to family, I often feel that you define your life by who you choose to spend your time with: your chosen family.
I recently had the chance to make connections with some amazing women in the CLCC 2020 Cohort and truly understand the importance of creating a logical family. I have made so many strong connections from this group and the deep conversations, the support, the ups and downs of 2020 and the connections made this year have truly helped me define my logical family. And it is this family that has helped me to thrive through the 2020 craziness. I am so grateful that I have leaned into them as a support system while simultaneously holding space for them. These friendships and deep connections have changed my life and made me so much more fulfilled. I no longer have a void in my life that I didn’t know was there.
So I ask you- who is your chosen family? Who have you made the decision to spend time with? Who are you surrounding yourself with? What kinds of conversations are you having? How are the people you are surrounded with affecting your life? Do those people lift you up?
It is important to remember that you GET to choose who your logical family is. Maybe some of them are from your biological family, maybe not. Maybe some of them are from your place of employment, maybe not. Maybe some of them live in your neighborhood, maybe not. Maybe some of them are childhood friends, maybe not.
I encourage you to take it very seriously when you decide who to spend your time with. We only get one trip on this planet and to make the best out of it, you need to be surrounded by the best people for you. And consider how you are showing up for your friends, too.
